Tech Concierge Membership Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

We’ve compiled a list of the most frequent questions we receive about Tech Concierge, as well as detailed answers to the questions. If you have additional questions we have not covered here, please reach out to us and let us know. We will get right back to you with the answers you are looking for.

What is Tech Concierge?

Tech Concierge is a concierge service for people who love technology and want to get the most out of it both at work and in life. Unlike traditional techs whose highest value is fixing problems, Tech Concierge curates and tailors your technology to simply work and give you joy. Tech Concierge delivers certified and qualified technical expertise with the savvy, thoughtfulness and hospitality you expect from a concierge at your favorite hotel or resort.

Tech Concierge was founded by James Coleman, an award-winning service professional and technologist with over 25 years and 40,000 hours experience teaching, advising and consulting for C-level executives, founders, and business owners. Mr. Coleman was first trained in the art of service by the Ritz Carlton. Through the years that followed he has served in both business advisory and technologist management roles for hundreds of companies, ranging from small businesses to large corporations including Apple, Inc.

Who is Tech Concierge for?

Tech Concierge is designed for individuals, including business owners, entrepreneurs, executives, as well as heads of household and their families. Many of the individuals we serve may have access to one or more world-class IT departments, but their support needs may go beyond the skill sets and resources designed into the business help desk, and often even cross over into the realm of personal and private space.

Tech Concierge addresses all of the tech-related needs of the individuals and families we focus on, while remaining mindful of compliance requirements with the IT departments our clients have relationships with. We work closely and proactively with the IT leadership and teams supporting our clients, whether they are the business owner, or an executive service the business, or a residence owner at a fine hotel and resort.

How do I know which Tech Concierge plans is right for me?

We currently offer four Tech Concierge membership programs, designed around the specific needs of our clients who typically identify with one of the following:

Tech Concierge Business for business owners, including small business owners and entrepreneurs who require a skilled, competent, knowledgeable trusted IT resource to handle the basics and be available when needed, to maximize their available time and at a tiny fraction of the cost of a full-time IT director.

Tech Concierge Residences for heads of household who manage one or more home, including residences at fine hotels and resorts worldwide. Keeping all of your tech running smoothly and fast, from Smart TVs to Apple TVs means tuning your network for not only the best possible speed but also the security required to protect your privacy. Our Residences clients have all the needs of our Business clients, plus more.

Tech Concierge Executive for executives and retired executives who typically advise numerous companies and may sit on one or more boards. Our Executive clients have all the needs of our Business and Residences clients, as well as the need for extra security, awareness of corporate compliance standards and requirements, and more.

Tech Concierge Club Level is for the serious tech enthusiast who is passionate about learning and developing their own abilities and skills around technology. This is probably the broadest category of customer, ranging from DIYers (do-it-yourselfers) to college and graduate students to individuals with more advanced technical skills who may find themselves out of practice and wanting to stay on the cutting edge. Club Level Membership includes access to several exclusive resources, including carefully curated news and updates, monthly live Ask-Me-Anything sessions with Tech Concierge founder James Coleman, and an ever-growing collection of downloadable checklists, how-tos and training you can use. Club Level Members also have special access to questions and answers via members-only email.

All Tech Concierge services and expertise are available to all of our clients, so we recommend you pick which of the above best fits your lifestyle and workflow requirements.

Does the monthly basic fee include prepaid service time?

The monthly basic fee includes the time we require to manage your account. What’s included in this can vary wildly, ranging from our staying on top of the basics regarding all of your devices, your applications, your network and more. It may include actively curating your documentation as you purchase new devices and retire older devices, which is part of our standard practice. And it includes all calls (except in the case of Club Level, which is email-based). We don’t believe in charging per call, because that disincentivizes customers from letting us know about small issues that we can quickly nip in the bud and prevent from becoming big, sometimes catastrophic issues.

Another way of phrasing the same question is, “do you bank hours for extra work?”

The answer is no. “Traditional” tech consultants business models often include “padding” their service agreements with extra fees to protect themselves from exposure to potential extra work. We don’t do this.

Instead, we take the time, each and every time, to determine together with you if the scope of extra work proposed is of value to you. If it’s not, we don’t do it. But in each case we invest whatever amount of time is required in good, effective communication to make sure you’re making the best-informed decision. And this is all included in your monthly service fee.

Do you offer “fixed fee” memberships?

Fixed fee memberships are one of the classic sales and marketing tricks used by “traditional” tech and audio/visual consultancies. As previously mentioned, Traditional IT service providers will “pad” their service agreements with extra fees to protect themselves from exposure to potential extra work. But recognizing that less service costs equals more profit, the fixed-fee business model often leads to implementing a help desk, typically staffed with less costly techs, while marketing help desk “availability” as a benefit.

In essence, fixed fee service programs are a race to the bottom, both in customer service and quality.

We believe customers should be well informed and be provided transparency. Our basic monthly fees covers the resources required to manage your account effectively. When we identify some product and/or extra work that will improve your experience, including the performance, reliability, security or privacy of your system, we will bring it to your attention, together with an estimate of costs, for your consideration and approval.

How do you deliver service?

We believe in creating the best experience for you by delivering service with unmatched simplicity and convenience. So we created a unique system and approach that can actually give you back hundreds of hours of time each year.

When you have a quick question, we can jump on-screen with you - on your Mac or PC, iPhone or iPad - to see what you’re seeing in order to get to the right answer quickly. We even complete data transfers remotely, to seamlessly switch you from old devices to new Macs, iPhones and iPads right at your desk at home. No on-site tech visit, and no need to visit an Apple Store. If a problem occurs, we can identify the root cause and resolve it in a fraction of the time, almost always without on-site service.

We call this approach to service Carbon-Free IT™.” By eliminating driving and travel time, we provide the most convenient and flexible service. And Carbon-Free IT is zero-touch, which is beneficial to your health and well-being during and beyond the age of COVID.

When on-site service is occasionally required, we will coordinate the most efficient, effective and safe way to get service done.

Is members-only Q&A email support (for Club Level) unlimited?

Yes. Members-only email Q&A is unlimited for all members at all membership levels, however email Q&A is specifically for just that, questions and answers. Complex how-tos and training, as well as information on delicate and potentially dangerous procedures are not appropriate for an email medium, so we reserve the right to determine when a question should not be included as part of the unlimited Q&A benefit, in which case we will always provide guidance and direction for how to appropriately and safely address the question. Members-only email is not for technicians, consultants and other IT and tech-related companies seeking 2nd-level support.

Do you have additional questions?
