Nostr

Tell Twitter to go X itself.
Let’s get started.

Get started with Nostr right now.

Ok, so here’s what you need to know:

  1. Nostr has no servers

  2. Nostr has no CEO (thank your god if you have one, if not, thank whatever)

  3. With Nostr, you control everything

There are no ads. There is no manipulation. There is no algorithm. You connect only with who you want to connect with. That’s it.

The way Nostr works is based on something called decentralized tech. What this means is that there is no central server. There are a series of relays, machines that have volunteered to act as temporary holding and sending stations. When you send a message, these relays forwards your message until it reaches its destination.

When you first get started with Nostr, you’ll have a chance to save your public key and your private key. Think about your public key as your handle. That’s where people can find you.

I use https://iris.to/ as my Nostr client of choice. When you get started, it will ask you to type your name. Type anything, then click Get Started.

Once you’re in, make sure you copy your public and private key. If you are afraid of this step, get in touch with us. If you’re OK with this, document it and get started.

Your private key is what allows you to “log in” and send messages as you. Don’t share this with anyone. Document it- write it down, and never lose it. If you lose it, you’ll lose access to your account forever. THERE IS NO TECH SUPPORT HERE. NO ONE CAN RESET YOUR KEY. That’s the beauty of decentralized tech.

Congratulations. You’re on Nostr.
